I have been a financial advisor for a number of years specialising in mortgages and making sure your assets are fully insured.
Having arrived in NZ with nothing bar a suitcase and a willingness to work, I started off working in an Irish bar (I know, shocking) and making beds in a backpackers. I then went on to be one of the founding members of NZ’s largest online marketplace, GrabOne. From there, I made the journey back home to Ireland for a few years to set up GrabOne, without enough sun and very little fishing available, I decided to head back to the land down under.
With a lot of hard work and smart saving I was able to gain that all-impossible first home deposit. Thing is, I didn’t become a hermit or change my lifestyle – just worked hard and got on the ladder. Leading on to the present day and after a few smart investments and very structured mortgages, I now can comfortably say I have a nice portfolio of assets and understand the market very well.
A lot can change in a very short period of time, and now that I have a loving 2-year old girl and great partner, family is one of the most important parts of my life. I would advise all people to enjoy what you have, and strive for that ultimate goal of being mortgage-free on your personal home and maybe a few others.
